Google Business Profile, formerly Google My Business, is the free listing that shows address, hours, phone and reviews on Search and Maps. Busca Orgânica manages this listing tied to the website, with the same data on both ends and each location pointing to its city page.
In searches with a city name or "near me", Google usually shows the map pack before the organic links. That is where the customer calls, asks for directions or opens the site. That is why we treat the Google Business Profile as the front door of local SEO: if the listing says one thing and the site says another, Google loses trust in both and the customer gets suspicious before clicking.
Busca Orgânica is a technology company with its own methodology, headquartered in Guarulhos (SP), with more than 700 clients served since 2021 (Grupo Orion corporate material, Sep/2026). Here, the listing is set up together with the site architecture, not after it.
What is Google Business Profile and what does management include?
Google Business Profile is Google's free tool for creating and maintaining a company's listing on Search and Maps; it was formerly called Google My Business. The listing brings together name, category, address or service area, hours, phone, website link, photos, posts and reviews. Our management covers six fronts:
- Verification, using the method Google makes available to the company: phone call, text message, email, video or postcard, according to Google's help on verification. The step-by-step for mail verification is in the post Google Business Profile postcard.
- Name, categories and services within the guidelines for representing your business on Google: the name is the one on the storefront and documents, with no city or keyword added.
- Name, address and phone (NAP) written the same way on the site, the listing and the CNPJ registration.
- Reviews answered with a tone template agreed with the client.
- Real photos and posts about the services the company most wants to sell.
- Link to the site: each listing points to the page for its city or location, and that page repeats the listing's data.
What is the difference between the listing and local SEO?
The listing is one piece of local SEO; local SEO, which many people call local organic search, is the whole. The listing competes for the map pack, while the site pages compete for the organic links right below. Google cross-checks what the listing declares with what it finds on the site and other sources. That is why a well-filled listing linked to a site without a city page performs below its potential.
According to Google's help on local ranking, map position combines three factors: relevance (how well the listing matches the search), distance (from the searcher to the business) and prominence (how well known the business is, including through links, articles and reviews). Distance can't be changed; relevance and prominence are the ones that listing and site management move.
For companies in our headquarters city, the complete local SEO work is in SEO in Guarulhos. For those who need the whole site ranked across multiple searches and cities, the starting point is SEO for businesses, in which the listing becomes one of the fronts.
How does Google Business Profile management work in practice?
Before changing any field, we run a check that usually reveals the listing's main problem. The order is this:
- Three sources side by side. We compare the name, address and phone on the site, the listing and the CNPJ registration with the Receita Federal. It is common for the listing to have inherited the address from the public registry, with abbreviations different from the site's.
- Site map test. We open the map link in the footer or on the contact page and see where it leads. It is the error we find most often: the link opens an address pin, with the building and the "Add your business" prompt, not the listing with name and reviews.
- Phone search on Maps. If the number opens another profile, there is a duplicate or old listing competing for the same call.
- Field adjustments. Name, primary category, secondary categories, services, service area and hours, within the guidelines.
- Linking listing and page. The landing page gets the same NAP and LocalBusiness structured data, from the Schema.org vocabulary, so Google associates the page with the listing.
- Monthly routine. Real photos, posts about the services and replies to reviews and questions, on an agreed calendar.
- Report. Listing metrics read together with the site's, as described below.
In organic, Busca Orgânica works with a performance guarantee written into the contract, with targets agreed at the start of the project. For the listing, what stays outside the promise is the map position, because it depends on the searcher's distance; how that rule is designed is in SEO with a performance guarantee.
Concrete examples: incomplete listing, adjusted listing and review reply
The table compares what we find in listings that come to the diagnosis with what we deliver after the adjustment. The example name is illustrative.
| Field | What we find | What we deliver |
|---|---|---|
| Name | "Dedetizadora Centro Guarulhos 24h", with city and keyword added to the real name | The storefront and CNPJ name, with nothing added. |
| Primary category | A generic category that doesn't say what the company sells | The category of the service that generates the most contacts. |
| Address | Written differently from the site, or a virtual office address | Same as the site footer; for businesses that serve at the customer's location, hidden address and service area. |
| Phone | Old number or another location's number | The same number as on the site, checked on Maps. |
| Website link | Home page for all locations | The city or location page. |
| Hours | No holiday hours | Hours from the site, with holidays set. |
| Reviews | Comments with no reply | All answered, in the same tone. |
Template for replying to a negative review
Review (illustrative example): "I requested a quote through the website and nobody got back to me." Reply we suggest to the client:
"Hi, Marcos. Thank you for letting us know. We checked, and your request arrived Friday night, outside business hours, and went unanswered, which shouldn't happen. We've already adjusted the alert for requests that arrive after hours. If you still need the quote, call the number on this listing and our team will pick up from your request."
The reply acknowledges the fact, says what changed and moves the conversation to a channel the company controls, without arguing in public. Generic replies, identical for every comment, are common in the listings that come to the diagnosis and don't convince people who read reviews before calling.
Where does the listing make the most difference?
The listing matters most for businesses customers search for with a city or neighborhood name and hire by phone or visit: clinics, offices, funeral homes, repair services, property management companies. These are profiles that show up often in our local client portfolio: funeral homes and law firms among the 165 service provider projects, and rehabilitation clinics among the 41 health and beauty projects (Busca Orgânica client base, Oct/2026). The work for these audiences is in SEO and GEO for service providers and in SEO and GEO for health and beauty.
In the state of São Paulo, where most of our base is (489 projects, Oct/2026), the listing competes for the map with competitors in the same neighborhood, and the right category and answered reviews weigh on prominence. Map competition changes from one region to another, and the local view of each appears in service in São Paulo and service in Paraná. The other states are in the list of states served.
When the listing isn't enough on its own
The listing appears in the map pack when the search involves a place, but it doesn't cover everything. Companies that sell nationwide, operate only online or compete for terms without geographic intent need service pages and content on the site. The listing also doesn't make up for a slow or confusing site: it brings the customer to the door, but the site closes the deal. In B2B prospecting, the listing answers a question the decision-maker has before replying: whether the company has a real address. A verified listing, with a storefront photo and answered reviews, answers it without anyone having to ask.
How much does Google Business Profile management cost?
The Google Business Profile listing is free: Google doesn't charge to create, verify or maintain the profile. What costs money is the work of setting up, fixing and keeping the listing tied to the site. The table separates what is free from what is part of the service:
| Item | In the Google dashboard | In the Busca Orgânica service |
|---|---|---|
| Create and verify the listing | Free, done by the company itself | Check of the three sources before verification, so the process doesn't get stuck. |
| Fix a duplicate, suspended or incorrect listing | Free, by request in the dashboard | Diagnosis of the cause, fixing the listing and the site, guidance on what to change in the CNPJ registration (done by the company or its accountant) and follow-up on the request. |
| Locations | One listing per address with in-person service | Each location linked to its page on the site. |
| Monthly routine | Photo, post and reply features | Calendar, copy and replies with an agreed template. |
| Report | Basic listing metrics | Cross-reading with the site and Search Console. |
The price changes with the number of locations, the state the listing arrives in (duplicate, suspended or unverified takes more work) and the frequency of the routine. The proposal separates the initial setup, paid once, from the monthly routine.
What Google Business Profile reports show
The monthly report includes four numbers from the Google Business Profile dashboard: the search terms that led to the listing, calls, direction requests and clicks to the website. Each one points to a different adjustment. A search term that brings people to the listing but isn't in the registered categories or services becomes a secondary category or a post; a rise in calls calls for the phone number checked on Maps; a rise in directions calls for reviewed address and hours.
Website clicks are checked against the landing page's visits in Google Analytics, to see whether people coming from the map find what they were looking for. And calls from the listing are read alongside contact clicks on the site itself, so the client knows which door the request came through.
To check whether your listing, your site and your CNPJ registration tell the same story, talk to Busca Orgânica and request a diagnosis of your local presence.
